Client C

Client C contacted us when his mother was near death. Her diagnosis was terminal, and she had chosen to die in her home. Our client and his siblings were looking for advice, direction, and support.

Our doulas visited the home on several occasions and spent time with the siblings and their mother. They were feeling a lot of conflicting emotions around the situation and needed reassurance that these are completely normal and natural reactions to a situation that feels so unnatural. We also provided advice on practical matters to help ease the physical and emotional burden of care on the family, such as suggesting that they expand the care team to include some overnight respite. We also suggested implementing a visitation schedule, offered reiki to family members, and educated them on what to expect in the days and hours leading up to the mother's death. As end-of-life doulas, our circle of care includes the loved ones of the dying person because we recognize the impact that a death can have on the ones who are left behind.
